Rosemary's Blessing:

May we be blessed with the gift of

contemplation of the blessings we have received and

then put this appreciation into action to help others.

And may there always be someone on your bike path

to help you on your way.

    Ponte 1

Heard of Locks of Love?  This seems to be where it began.  A lock is secured to the chain link fence, the key is thrown in the river, and your relationship will never be broken.

Trouble was, the weight of the locks was breaking down the bridge, the Bridge of Art, Paris, over the Seine with the Louvre on the opposite side.

So, the locks had to come off and those red & white plywood panels were put up.  Locks are only on the edges, like in the picture.  The Locks of Love idea has spread everywhere in Europe.

    Rosemary's Blessing

What good did it do when you frowned?  Let me ask:

Did it help you at all to accomplish your task?

Did it lighten your burden or help you along?

Did the frown that you wore make a right out of wrong?

What good did it do to be grouchy today?

Did your surliness drive any trouble away?

Did you cover more ground than you usually do?

Because of the grouch that you carried with you?

If not, what’s the use of a grouch or a frown?

If it won’t smooth a path or a grim trouble down?

If it doesn’t assist you , it isn’t worth while:

Your work may be hard, but just do it and smile.

    Rosemary's Blessing of  The Week,

A Prayer For Growing Old Gracefully

Lord, Thou knowest better than I myself that I am growing older and will someday be old.  Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.

Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody; helpful but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all; but Thou knowest, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end.

    CIMG7326

    Scott reading from Genesis.

Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point. Seal my lips on my aches and pains; they are increasing, and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.

I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility and a lessening cock-sureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.

Keep me reasonably sweet, for a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people; and give, O Lord, the grace to tell them so.

    Amen.

    17th Century Nun’s Prayer
