Does not every married couple begin their married life by hiking "Rim to Rim?   That is, going all the way down the Bright Angel Trail from the South Rim to the river in the bottom of the Canyon, then climbing all the way up to the North Rim, maybe 14 thousand feet total, in one day.

No matter how big and bad you are, when a two year old hands you a toy telephone, you answer it.
