27th Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 4, 2026

Isaiah  5:   The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; . . .
Philippians 4:   Brothers and sisters:  Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
Matthew 21:   Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes?

Life is not a burden to be bemoaned; it is an adventure to be trusted. As Shel Silverstein says: “Listen to the mustn’ts, child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me… Anything can happen, child. Any
thing can be.”

    Community Bulletin Board:

    • True?   Every gun that is made, every warship launched,
every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense,
a theft from those who hunger and are not fed,
those who are cold and are not clothed.
The world in arms is not spending money alone.
It is spending the sweat of its laborers,
      the genius of its scientists,
      the hopes of its children…
This is not a way of life at all,
      in any true sense.
Under the cloud of threatening war,
it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.
