By the way, we are dropping the idea of riding bikes through Highland Park to look at the Christmas lights.  It is just too cold.  Plus, each bike would need lights on front and back, a little expensive.

    True?

The mantra we frequently pray, "Come, Lord, Jesus, come," means somehow in Advent we have to make sure we are hungry, that is, that there is room inside us for "more."  Who else do I need to "take in" my heart and my mind?

Like Jesus, we can give the God who dwells in us a way of coming to human expression in the way we are neighbor, the way we are in solidarity with those who are different from us or who have less than we, the way we put an end to divisions, and the way we are more expansive and inclusive in our loving, forgiving and giving.

As we live this holy season of Advent, let us remember "God comes to you disguised as your life."*

For those who don’t have a decent Bible or a book of the readings, here are two links that I use, The Bible at Your Fingertips and USCCB, The New American Bible.

The difference?  The second is officially Catholic and has the 12 little books in between the O.T. & N.T., called Deuterocanonical or Apocrypha.

Both are good translations.  I use the first more often because it has fewer doors to pass through to get to the text.  Thanks, Gerald, for this idea.  I will include the link from now on.

All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life I could say I have traversed long, long paths but I am not anywhere. My benefactor's question has meaning now. Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere, but one has a heart, the other doesn't. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you stronger; the other weakens you.

Isaiah 50:  The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

“Friendship,” Coleridge writes, “is a sheltering tree.” It shades us in the sun, shelters us in the rain and protects us from the harsh winds of life. Our friends stand between us and the storms of life to give us the time and reflection we need to become our strongest selves.
