Sunday Mass Notice, February 25, 2007 – Lent, 1st Sunday

Welcome:  Catholic Mass with coffee & juice & specials on the house served afterwards.

Time: 9:30; Celebrate with the Community & Stack

Place: Vines High School, 15th between Custer & Independence

Welcome to the little village of Shelby. Up the hill the crowd of riders is so dense you have to walk. Apologies for all pix on RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride across Iowa). This event was such a marvelous slice of Americana at its very best. 35,000 riders estimated.

The inmates are allowed out for the week. Lots of them. A ROMEO? One of ours?

Readings:

Ecclesiastes 1, 2; 21-23,  All things are vanity.

Psalm 90,  If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Colossians 3, 1-5, 9-11  Seek what is above.

Luke 12, 13-21, You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you.

These little ladies told me they are Mennonites. They make a wicked Rhubarb-Strawberry pie, $2, per slice. I had 4 one day.

Day 4, departing from Des Moines, we arrived at the little town of Runnels, my favorite pass through town. The high school band welcomed us along with cheerleaders, big and little, and beautiful shade. Impossible to get out of Runnels in less than 2 hours.

 Community Events:  

  1.   Our next Habitat special day is, August 3, This Saturday.  Look for the neighborhood behind the Home Depot on Central, 11^th & Ave. E.  
A person may also work any Saturday.  We are getting there.

2.   ROMEO lunch Friday, July 26, 1:00, as usual.   

 3.  The Women's Lunch Group on Thursdays is on vacation until August.    For info talk with Carol or Bernadette.  

Runnel's local dance school welcoming us with 3 lines of dancing girls. Line 2 is in the red outfits behind the girls dancing.

Another loose inmate with his truck. Lots of classic cars and hot rods were on display in the little towns.

Want to get rid of your old school bus? Bus reincarnation here, "Shagbrai." The roof serves as a bike rack when traveling and a party venue when parked at the overnight towns. Beware of inibriation. It is a long way down.

The lady thanked me for taking the picture of her bus. She said they hired graffiti artists to do the job. Americana at its Best.

2 Christmas Performances:   Here are two performances at two different venues, one at the Meyerson as usual, the other at the brand new Winspear Opera House.  The plans:

    1.  December 10, Thursday, 7:30: The Meyerson.  Christmas Special, $55 (New Director this Christmas.  David Davidson died of cancer Saturday.)

    2.  December 15, Tuesday, 8:00:   The Winspear, South Pacific, $50 (cheapest in the house; with 15 or more we get better seats at $55)

As an extra: pre-performance wine & cheese at the Tulip Lane parsonage with a tour through the best Christmas decorations in Dallas, i.e., Highland Park.
