Assumption Hall

Assumption Hall, Spring Hill College, the Jesuit students' residence.  I lived there 1962-1965 with ca. 150 fellow Jesuits.  It has been torn down and replaced with a colony of attractive student apartments.   Did the college not want to make  it a historical monument??

Acts 1:  “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Ephesians 1:  May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe,in accord with the exercise of his great might, . . .
Matthew 28:  . . . “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Kindness is not recompense for favors received, it is unearned warmth given for absolutely no reason at all.  Joseph Joubert says of it, “A part of kindness consists in loving people more than they deserve.”

  • Reminder for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 7, 2025

Wisdom 9: Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the LORD intends?  For the deliberations of mortals are timid,  and unsure are our plans.

Philemon: Perhaps this is why he was away from you for a while, that you might have him back forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave, a brother, beloved especially to me, but even more so to you, as a man and in the Lord.

Luke 14: Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
