Reminders

Amos 6:  Woe to the complacent in Zion!  Lying upon beds of ivory, stretched comfortably on their couches, they eat lambs taken from the flock,  and calves from the stall!
1 Timothy 6:  But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
 Luke 16:  “There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day.  And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table.

Isaiah 66:  I know their works and their thoughts, and I come to gather nations of every language; they shall come and see my glory.

Hebrews 12:  So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees.  Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.

Truth is time-bound, winning is fleeting, competition fails us, accumulations go to dust. Only love remains. Novalis says of it: “Love works magic/ It is the final purpose/ of the world story,/ The Amen of the universe.”

Another Reminder for the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, August 24, 2025

Revelation 11:  A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.

1 Corinthians 15:  Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Luke 1:  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

                             

Love is the value that trumps all others — truth, equality, even justice. “At the evening of life,” John of the Cross writes, “we shall be judged on our love.”  And the reason is obvious.

Wisdom 18: The night of the passover was known beforehand to our fathers,  that, with sure knowledge of the oaths in which they put their faith,  they might have courage.

Hebrews 11:  Brothers and sisters: Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested.

                             

                                                                   

To love someone is to double all our joys and divide all our disappointments. To be loved is to increase our courage and decrease our fears.

Another Reminder for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, August 10, 2025

Ecclesiastes 1:  For what profit comes to man from all the toil and anxiety of heart with which he has labored under the sun?

Colossians 3:  For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.    When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

Luke 12:  “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

                              

                                                                   

 

Never fear periods of darkness in life. They are the atrium to new phases of life, the threshold to new experience, the invitation to move on from where you are to where there is more for you to learn.
